If one does not have wisdom realizing selflessness which ascertains incontrovertably the mode of subsistence of phemomena, then no matter how much one has meditated on the [intention] definitely to leave [cyclic existence] and bodhicitta, which was explained above, one will not be released from cyclic existence because just these two [the intention definitely to leave cyclic existence and bodhicitta] are unable to cut and undermine the root of cyclic existence—the referent object of the conception of [inherently existent] self. Therefore, it is necessary to strive for a method for realizing how to achieve the meaning of emptiness and dependent-arising.
